The Scholarship Application for School Year 2011-2012 is available at the bottom of this page. Make sure that you read this entire page and the instruction sheet attached with the application BEFORE beginning the application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Eighth grade students who satisfy the required criteria listed below are encouraged to apply for an HFS Chicago Scholars High School Scholarship. It may not be necessary to exhibit all five elements listed. However, the more of these criteria you possess, the better your chances are of being selected as a Scholar. You must plan to attend (and eventually gain acceptance to) a tuition-charging private high school within the Chicago area (including some suburbs). Basic requirements are as follows:
- Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above
(B average or above)
- 40 to 55 percentile on 7th grade standardized test scores in math and reading
- Evidence of positive academic work ethic
(demonstrated through the required 7th and 8th grade report cards)
- Demonstration of positive conduct
- Demonstration of financial need
Students who are accepted as Scholars must agree to the terms outlined in the HFS Scholarship Agreement for Success, which includes expectations for academic standards, commitment to community service, and active participation in HFS-sponsored events and mentoring.
Additionally, all incoming scholars are required to attend and successfully complete summer enrichment courses offered by HFS in preparation for high school. Tuition for this summer enrichment program is covered by HFS (one of the benefits of being a scholar).
If you participated in the HFS Chicago Scholars Super Scholar Day as a 7th grader, you will be given priority consideration of your scholarship applications. This does not guarantee an interview or acceptance into the scholarship program. This just means that your application will be reviewed before the other 8th grade applicants who did not attend Super Scholar Day.
If you have further questions, you can either call or e-mail the HFS office.
